MLB career milestones in reach in 2025

Homers, steals, strikeouts, and other stats

Career milestones are especially significant in baseball, and several players are within reach of certain statistical benchmarks this season.

450 home runs

Giancarlo Stanton may be limited to DH duties for the Yankees following a list of injuries but that hasn’t kept him from seeing more than 400 plate appearances a year. He smashed 27 home runs in 2024, the exact total he’ll need to reach 450 for his career.

Stanton has an outside chance at reaching 500 before his Yankees contract ends if he can keep on the field.

400 home runs

Injuries have plagued Mike Trout in recent years otherwise he may have already reached the 400-homer mark. He was limited to just 29 games and 126 plate appearances in 2024 but hit 10 home runs. He enters 2025 just 22 short of 400.

300 home runs

Kyle Schwarber (284) leads the list of five with realistic chances to reach 300 this season. The others: Eugenio Suárez (276), Marcell Ozuna (275), Salvador Perez (273), and Mookie Betts (271).

Big seasons from Matt Olsen (259) and José Ramírez (255) would put them there, too.

2,000 hits

Manny Machado enters 2025 exactly 100 hits shy of reaching 2,000. With good health, he could end up reaching 3,000 before his time in San Diego concludes.

Nolan Arenado needs 174 hits to reach 2,000 himself. The last time he reached that mark in a single season was 2019.

1,000 RBI

Bryce Harper has driven in 976 runs in his career, 24 short of 1,000.

Trout (954) and Perez (916) could also reach the mark with healthy seasons.

Anthony Rizzo (965) is technically eligible here, too. He remains a free agent following a rough final season with the Yankees that saw him hit just .228/.301/.335 in 375 PA.

300 stolen bases

Trea Turner enters 2025 at 279 steals. He’s averaged 25 steals a year during his tenure with the Phillies.

100 pitching wins

Okay, so pitching wins has become a notoriously contentious topic within many circles. A lot of people feel the statistic is no longer valid. I’m not fully on board with the anti-win belief — the statistic is still useful when used in context — but I support the general shift towards other measures to evaluate and weigh pitchers against other pitchers.

Five arms enter 2025 within reach of their 100th career win: José Berrios (99), Kyle Hendricks (97), Nathan Eovaldi (91), Rich Hill (90), Martín Pérez (90).

450 saves

Both may still be free agents, but Kenley Jansen (447) and Craig Kimbrel (440) could reach the 450-save milestone. Only three pitchers in history have done so.

2,000 innings pitched

Durability is incredibly valuable in a pitcher. Three arms are within striking distance of reaching the 2,000 IP mark in their careers: Jose Quintana (1969.2), Chris Sale (1958.1), and Gerrit Cole (1954.0).

3,500 strikeouts

Justin Verlander needs 84 to reach 3,500. He is already 10th on the all-time list.

Max Scherzer sits just nine behind Verlander.

3,000 strikeouts

Clayton Kershaw enters 2025 only 32 strikeouts shy of 3,000. He hasn’t signed but the expectation is that he’ll return to the Dodgers for what will be his 18th season.
